What to Do After Donating
To help your body recover after donating plasma, it is important to adhere to the following suggestions:
- Eat a light meal or snack. It’s a good idea to drink extra fluids in the 24 hours after you donate.
- Leave the bandage on your arm for at least two hours after you leave the center. This will help to prevent bleeding.
- If bleeding does occur, apply pressure and raise your arm.
- Keep the area around the site clean and dry and avoid touching this area. This will help to prevent infection.
- Do not lift heavy objects.
- After donation, if a scab forms at the venipuncture site, do not remove it.
- Do not smoke for 1 hour after your donation.
- If you experience any unusual symptoms call or return to the center. In an emergency, seek medical attention.
- If you feel faint or dizzy, lie down or sit.
- Call your donation center if symptoms or discomfort persist. We’re here to help!
To ensure you have the best experience possible, it is important to also follow the suggestions on how to prepare to donate plasma.
